On the way to Laos

Took a 20 hour bus ride to Laos...it was actually not too unpleasant, especially after we asked them to turn down the TV's! There were 4 of us foreigners...actually 5, but one of them didn't talk, so we didn't include him. My travel companions had to wake up and see me in the morning...I don't think they'll ever be the same.

Halong Bay cont

Luxury cruise liner indeed! The crew was quite unfriendly and wouldn't even make us hot water for tea!!!

There were only 7 people on this tugboat...one of them was deathly afraid of rats, which we all thought was funny.

The "cruise" included kayaking, hiking and cave exploration...would you say these are $100 pictures?

Halong Bay, Vietnam

This boat "cruise" was supposed to be some kind of luxury event...I was told that $100 was a reasonable price to pay, but when I got on the boat...it was more like a tug boat, with rats running around it...the other people paid on ly $43-67 for their "cruise". So I officially got scammed. I went back to the hotel where I bought the ticket and made a big scene that included tears and yelling...but I got $30 back...so I consider myself fortunate. I did get some good pictures afterall....

Hanoi, Vietnam

Fruit or a hair cut? All can be found on the cold streets of Hanoi. Very noticeable is the French influence in the Capital City of Vietnam.

Saigon, Vietnam

Vietnam's best...new friends and Pho...

Sihanoukville, Cambodia

The seaside is beautiful, lots of food to buy and eat right on the beach...mussels and prawns were favorites.

S21 Killing Feilds

I know that these images are not as palatable as the rest of my blog. However, I feel that recognition of this tragic part of Cambodia's history warrants a spot on my blog. The Khymer Rouge, led by Pol Pot, reigned 1975-1979...known mostly for it's social engineering which resulted in genocide. Some estimate that 3 million people (1/3 of Cambodia's population) were killed during this time.
